DOLE’s TUPAD extends support to persons deprived of liberty
BAYUGAN CITY, Agusan del Sur - The persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Bayugan City Jail were thankful to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga for extending its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program for the said sector.
“Daghan kaayong salamat Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). Pinaagi aning inyong Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), nabati gyod namo nga ang gobyerno nag pangga gihapon sa amoa. Dako na kaayo kini og tabang sa amoa nga mga inmates (Thank you so much, DOLE. Through TUPAD, we felt that the government still cares for us. This is really a great help for us, inmates).”
This heartfelt gratitude statement came from a PDL of the Bayugan City Jail who expressed appreciation for DOLE’s program on TUPAD that provided them with temporary employment.
A total of 168 PDLs participated in a 10-day temporary work program that included gardening, planting vegetables and mushrooms, making traditional beads, and cleaning the City Jail facilities. Each inmate received a salary of P3,850.
DOLE-Caraga Assistant Regional Director Raymond Fel F. Sajor, together with DOLE-Agusan del Sur Field Office Head Buhawe B. Corvera-Correa, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Caraga Director Belinda A. Ebora, along with DOLE personnel and BJMP officials attended the said event.
ARD Sajor, shared his sentiments during the said activity stating that, “The department is glad to assist these individuals. We cover PDLs as beneficiaries of TUPAD because they are part of the vulnerable group, and we commend the initiative of the BJMP to facilitate assistance for the PDLs.”
On the other hand, Dir. Ebora, also gave her warm appreciation to the department. “This is the first time we were invited to witness such an impactful event between DOLE and BJMP, and it’s so nice to see these hopeful faces. I hope that DOLE’s program brings you hope and joy. Thank you so much, DOLE, for this opportunity,” she said.
The department’s TUPAD program uplifted the hopes of the inmates and even motivated them to contribute positively to society upon release from confinement.
