PNP, DICT strengthen collaboration on cybercrime response in Caraga
Butuan City – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Caraga welcomed the courtesy visit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 13 (RACU 13) on December 19, focusing on fostering enhanced collaboration in addressing cybercrime and advancing cybersecurity initiatives in the region.
The meeting underscored the pressing need for a unified approach to managing cybercrime cases and strengthening the region’s overall cybersecurity landscape. Key topics included evolving cybercrime trends and strategies, with both parties agreeing to hold regular coordination meetings, conduct joint training sessions, and align initiatives to mitigate cybercrime threats.
DICT Caraga’s Chief of the Technical Operations Division, Engr. Lawrence P. Salang, expressed gratitude to RACU 13’s proactive engagement, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating the increasing cybercrime threats. “This partnership underscores our shared commitment to safeguarding the region’s digital landscape and ensuring that our constituents receive timely and effective cybercrime assistance,” he stated.
Led by PCol. Armie S. Agbuya, regional chief of RACU 13, the unit shared valuable insights into evolving cybercrime trends in the region and reaffirmed its commitment to close collaboration with DICT.
PCol. Agbuya also proposed strategies to enhance coordination between the two agencies to streamline response mechanisms for cybercrime cases saying, “We recognize the importance of continuous learning and equipping our team with the latest tools and knowledge in cybersecurity. By working together, we aim to build a stronger network capable of addressing cyber threats swiftly and protecting individuals and organizations from malicious online activities.’
This partnership reinforces both agencies’ commitment to enhancing their capacity to tackle the complexities of cybercrime and cybersecurity. Their joint efforts aim to safeguard individuals and institutions in Caraga while supporting the overarching goal of establishing a safe cyberspace under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 or RA.
