SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- A veteran master mariner was formally appointed as a regular harbor pilot for the Surigao Maasin Bislig Pilotage District during a modest ceremony held on November 28 at the Port Management Office of Surigao.
The oath of office was administered by Port Manager Froilan Caturla, marking an important moment in Captain Rex B. Sagaral’s distinguished maritime career. With over a decade of seafaring experience, he will bring a wealth of expertise to his new role.
A graduate of the Philippine Maritime Institute (PMI) Colleges in Bohol, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation, Capt. Sagaral consistently demonstrated professional excellence throughout his maritime journey. He served as Master Mariner from December 2011 until September 2022, during which he successfully skippered various ocean-going vessels.
Prior to his current appointment, Sagaral served with the Manila Bay Harbor Pilots and was a full-time member from February 2023 until August 2024, a period that honed his skills in navigational expertise, pilotage and maritime safety at the country's’ premiere maritime port.
His appointment as a Regular Harbor Pilot in the Surigao Maasin Bislig Pilotage District represents not just a personal achievement but also highlights the continued professionalization of maritime services in the region.
