Surigao City holds Children's Congress
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) recently conducted the Children's Congress as part of the city's observance of National Children's Month.
With the theme, "Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines," the event focused on raising awareness about violence and abuse against children and women.
Elementary and high school students participated in discussions on issues, including the Safe Spaces Act or Republic Act 11313.
During the said a activity, City Councilors Noel Christian Catre Jr. and Karl Duane Casurra emphasized the importance of child protection.
Meanwhile, Atty. Geramer V. Durato presented an overview of the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) law, while Assistant CSWD Officer Mark Caven C. Salar welcomed the participants.
The local government called on parents and barangay officials to strengthen cooperation in safeguarding children’s rights, aligning with the city’s efforts to create a safer environment for children.
