DILG-13 capacitates coop dev’t officers

BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Caraga, in partnership with the Support for the Local Governance Program (SLGP), conducted the “Understanding Partnership of LGUs and Cooperative Sector in Caraga Region” for the local government units' (LGU) cooperative development officers, held on December 16-19 at the Oazis Hotel, this city.

The activity was a major breakthrough in the Caraga region as it was the first capacity development intervention conducted by DILG towards strengthening the capacity of cooperative development officers (CDOs).

A total of 72 LGU and cooperative representatives and 117 DILG technical personnel participated in the said activity.

The training modules were developed hand in hand with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Caraga headed by Dir. Monato Honeya R. Alawi, and the Regional Cooperative Development Council (RCDC) representative Winston S. Salvador of the Propegemus Foundation, Inc.

Also, DILG Central Office SLGP Project Management Office (PMO) Head Richard L. Villacorte attended the activity and shared hindsight why the said undertaking came to being.

He also expressed high regard to the local chief executives  who understand the not-so-popular but immense contribution of cooperatives to local economy and to those social inclusion – LGUs that were able to create and appoint a cooperative development office and cooperative development officer, respectively, not as a means to comply with the law but a means for development.

“The activity is challenging but incredibly rewarding, we want to empower and guide cooperative officers in reaching out to the local cooperatives of which we consider the lifeblood of many communities, contributing to social and economic progress," said DILG Caraga Dir. Maria Loisella E. Lucino.

Other resource speakers include Senior Cooperative Development Specialist of CDA Caraga NiΓ±o Rosil C. Bantayan and Attorney IV of DILG Caraga Francise Mae Mordeno-Pulido.

Resource persons coming from the two of the billionaire cooperatives in the region were also invited as sharers, namely: Consultant of Baug Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) Beneficiaries Multipurpose Cooperative Jimmy L. Beray, and Board of Directors (BOD) Chairperson of Pera Multipurpose Cooperative Gil C. Gilot. (DILG Caraga/PIA-Caraga)
