55 barangays train on Barangay Information Management System

BUTUAN CITY -- Representatives from 55 barangays of this city actively participated, showcasing their dedication to adopting digital tools for more efficient governance, during the roll-out training for the Local Government Unit Support System (LGUSS) – Barangay Information Management System (BIMS) conducted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Caraga, held at the city's Grand Palace Hotel.

The LGUSS-BIMS training sought to provide barangay officials and personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to fully utilize the system’s features and incorporate it effectively into their daily tasks. Developed by the DILG Information Systems and Technology Management Service (ISTMS), this initiative supports the government’s push for digitalization, offering a free platform to enhance the efficiency of public service delivery.

Chief of the Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division (LGMED) Ray Gregory F. Jaranilla delivered a welcome message on behalf of Regional Director Maria Loisella E. Lucino, emphasizing the value of reliable systems and data in addressing community needs and enhancing the quality of life in barangays.

Participants engaged in lectures and hands-on activities, focusing on the features and functions of the system, which included the following: Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC) Management, Inhabitant Profiling, Issuance Management, Property Management, Disaster Resilience, Barangay Gender and Development (GAD) Plan and Budget Monitoring, Katarungang Pambarangay, and Barangay Website.

DILG Butuan OIC-City Dir. Annabel F. Yangson concluded the program by praising the participants for their commitment and urging them to adopt the BIMS, emphasizing its significance in the daily operations of barangays.

Similar training sessions have been and will be conducted in various barangays across the provinces in Caraga, ensuring that barangays throughout the region are equipped with the skills and tools needed to embrace digital transformation in governance.

This region-wide roll-out training marked a significant step in DILG Caraga’s ongoing commitment to empowering barangays and local government units through innovative tools and fostering capacity-building initiatives. (Diane Caryl T. Yu, DILG-13/PIA-Caraga)
