PRC warns Caraga stakeholders vs fake practitioners

By Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY – According to reports, there have been people who were victims of fraud by fake practitioners who also collected unjustifiable fees.

This was one of the issues and concerns raised by the media personalities during the recent Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas hosted by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as the guest agency.

To verify whether a professional is registered with PRC Caraga, Regional Director Cheryll P. Elicano stressed that the simplest way to check is by accessing the PRC website - prc.gov.ph and click on the Verification of License module.

She also urged the public to report any suspected cases of unlicensed practice or practice of fake practitioners.

In investigating received complaints and reports on unlicensed professionals practicing in the region, Dir. Elicano said that they maintain professional standards and take proactive, fast, evidence-based measures against misconduct.

“Complaints are thoroughly investigated to ensure accountability, and temporary measures, such as suspensions, are implemented when public safety is at immediate risk,” she explained.

Data shows that as of July 2024, an estimated 116,224 professionals are registered in their agency.

Elicano highlighted that professionals have various opportunities to earn continuing professional development (CPD) points through programs offered by different training providers, whether face-to-face or online.

To participate, professionals simply need to register and indicate their intent to be included in the program.

Meanwhile, to address the challenges faced by senior citizens who may not be as tech-savvy yet want to renew online, Elicano said they have a dedicated window for them and they provided technical assistance to guide them through the account creation and online appointment scheduling processes.

“Once they have secured an online appointment, they can conveniently transact during regular hours. Many senior citizens and retirees continue to renew their Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) IDs even after retirement,” she said.

Elicano further shared that the decision to renew their (senior citizens) PRC IDs is influenced by various factors, such as preserving professional identity, engaging in consulting and advisory roles, pursuing ongoing education and professional development, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, and achieving personal satisfaction and fulfillment.
