BUTUAN CITY – Barangay Lingayao in the municipality of Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte, is set to host the second episode of “Panagtigum sa Barangay” on April 2, 2025.
This quarterly initiative, spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga, aims to bring government programs and services closer to the grassroots by addressing key local issues that impact communities.
The first episode, held in January at Barangay Holy Redeemer, tackled the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act and was attended by 50 registered solo parents. The session provided vital information on government support, rights, and benefits available to solo parents, ensuring they are aware of the assistance they can avail.
For the second episode, Barangay Lingayao has identified teenage pregnancy as its top priority concern. Punong Barangay Noli Jay B. Dapat stressed the importance of addressing the teenage pregnancies and the involvement of youth in activities that disrupt their education and future prospects.
To directly engage students and parents, the event will bring together around 300 Grades 10-12 students and their parents for discussions on responsible parenthood, adolescent reproductive health, and youth empowerment.
A key highlight of the event will be a talk by Commission on Population (POPCOM) Caraga Regional Director Alexander A. Makinano, who will serve as resource speaker.
Makinano will share expert insights on: teenage pregnancy prevention strategies; The impact of early pregnancies on education and economic opportunities; The importance of parental guidance in youth decision-making; and Adolescent reproductive health and responsible relationships
PIA Caraga Regional Head Venus L. Garcia emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This program provides barangays with a platform to directly engage with government agencies, discuss critical community issues, and implement solutions that will benefit their constituents.”
Through the active participation of students, parents, local leaders, and experts, Panagtigum sa Barangay aims to empower the youth, strengthen family support systems, and foster a well-informed and responsible community in Barangay Lingayao. (NCLM, PIA Agusan del Norte)
