Caraga tourism gets major push from DOT with new projects, flights

By Nora L. Molde

BUTUAN CITY —  The Department of Tourism continues to reinforce its commitment to promoting the region’s top tourist destinations through strengthened collaboration with local government units, strategic initiatives and enhanced tourism services.

DOT Caraga Director Ivonnie B. Dumadag emphasized the agency’s dedication to supporting LGUs in their tourism development efforts.

“Part of the mandate to LGUs is to develop and promote their respective tourism destinations as part of their local tourism plan,” Dumadag said, as she encouraged LGUs to integrate tourism development into their strategic planning and conduct regular assessments to improve visitor experiences.

The DOT remains dedicated to enhancing local tourism programs, ensuring sustainable development and driving economic growth across the region.

Recently, DOT Caraga, through the Philippine Experience Program in Agusan del Norte, highlighted the province’s diverse tourism offerings. This initiative showcased its rich cultural and historical heritage, including well-preserved historical houses that reflect the province’s vibrant past.

“DOT Caraga remains committed to promoting these cultural treasures and supporting local tourism initiatives to enhance visitor experiences,” Dumadag said.

DOT Caraga Assistant Regional Director Tiara Julia M. Santos also underscored the department’s continuous efforts to reinforce local tourism initiatives and collaborate with various stakeholders to promote Caraga’s top tourist destinations.

“Through strengthened partnerships and promotional efforts, DOT Caraga is able to showcase the region’s rich natural wonders, cultural heritage and adventure experiences. Visitors are encouraged to explore and discover what Caraga has to offer, from pristine beaches and breathtaking landscapes to unique local traditions and delicacies,” she added.

Additionally, DOT Caraga welcomed the introduction of additional flights and new routes that improve accessibility, further encouraging LGUs to boost their tourism destinations. She expressed optimism that these new travel options will attract more visitors, support local businesses and strengthen Caraga’s position as a top tourist destination.

Looking ahead, DOT Caraga is set to launch new tourism projects to further promote the region, generating jobs and driving economic growth. These initiatives will highlight Caraga’s unique attractions, strengthen local tourism and create productive opportunities for communities, reinforcing the region’s standing as a must-visit destination.

The new tourism projects and initiatives include support for the region’s capital city by promoting its upcoming Balangay Cruise Docking facility and a site validation activity in collaboration with the Butuan City Tourism Office, assessing key locations along the Agusan River, including the barangays of Bading, Pagatpatan, Banza and Tungao.

“DOT Caraga continues to implement various programs to enhance the region’s tourism industry and achieve global recognition,” Dumadag said during the recent Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas. “Through these initiatives, we remain committed to promoting sustainable tourism, supporting local communities and showcasing the rich cultural and natural attractions of the region to both local and international travelers.” (NCLM, PIA Caraga)
