Barangays in Agusan Sur receive rescue motorcycles

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur – The Agusan del Sur provincial government recently distributed motorcycles that are custom-built for emergency medical services to 24 barangays of San Luis, Agusan del Sur.
The motorcycles were
funded by the province's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund.
“This vehicle is a big
help for emergency patients, especially since we live in areas with rough
roads. This motorcycle is a convenient mode of transport to reach our
community. It is a significant help for our Banwaon tribe,” said Lito
Manseliohan, punong barangay of Barangay Mahagsay.
“Before, we struggled to
reach neighboring barangays and flooded areas. Now, this will enhance your
mobility,” said Armando Gomez, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management (PDRRM) Officer.
“This is very important for the barangay DRRM committee chairpersons, as it will also be useful for the barangay tanods in conducting surveillance,” he added.
“As government officials,
we should be good examples. Our vehicles should have an Official Receipt (OR)
and Certificate of Registration (CR). We need to renew them on or before their
expiry date, and the brake lights, signal lights, horn and helmets should all
be in place to prevent violations. Otherwise, they might be apprehended on the
road,” said Gov. Santiago B. Cane Jr.
“A red plate does not
exempt a vehicle from violations. There are still penalties, and it would be
unfortunate for the driver to face consequences,” he added.
Before the official turnover of the motorcycles, all punong barangays and designated drivers underwent technical driving orientation conducted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to equip them with knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices.
