More technology–driven business to operate in Agusan Norte, says DOST

By Nora L. Molde

BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Caraga continues to ensure the success and sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Agusan del Norte, supporting their growth through technological advancements and innovation-driven interventions.

According to Meriam B. Bouquia, provincial science and technology director for Agusan del Norte, DOST actively monitors businesses that have availed of the agency’s technology and technical assistance, ensuring that they maximize the benefits of these interventions.

“We are closely monitoring the businesses that received assistance from DOST, particularly in technology and technical support,” Bouquia said. “This is to ensure that our interventions lead to tangible improvements in their operations, productivity, and overall business growth.”

One of the major projects in the province is the establishment of a Bamboo Textile Facility, which is expected to be operational within the year. This facility will support the local bamboo industry, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the sustainable textile sector.

Also, a food innovation facility is being established in Buenavista, providing research, development, and technical support for food processing businesses. This initiative will help local entrepreneurs enhance product quality and market competitiveness, boosting the province’s food industry.

Through programs like the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) and other science and technology-driven initiatives, DOST Agusan del Norte helped the MSMEs enhance their efficiency, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability.

With its proactive approach to monitoring and mentoring, DOST remained committed to empowering businesses and contributing to the economic development of the province.

Also, DOST Caraga continued to work closely with local government units (LGUs) and academia to advance science, technology, and (STI)-led innovation development in the province of Agusan del Norte.

“We continuously collaborate with LGUs and academic institutions to develop strategic plans that promote innovation and technology adoption,” Bouquia added. “We are currently working on the STI development plans of Buenavista and Cabadbaran City, aligning them with national goals for inclusive growth.” (NCLM, PIA Agusan del Norte)
