DICT, NICA train Caraga gov’t personnel on cybersecurity essentials

BUTUAN CITY — The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) Caraga conducted a three-day capacity building on Cybersecurity Essentials and Technical Training in partnership with National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) Caraga on March 26-28, at THE HIVE, 402nd Brigade, Philippine Army (PA) in Bancasi, Butuan City.

A total of 42 participants attended the training, including IT support staff from government agencies, law enforcement officers, government personnel handling sensitive information, and first responders to cybersecurity incidents. The program aimed to enhance the participants' understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat intelligence, incident response, cybersecurity frameworks and standards.

CPT Rolan Salarda, S6, 402nd Brigade, Philippine Army, as host agency, warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. He encouraged the attendees to maximize this opportunity to enhance collective cybersecurity awareness and preparedness.

DICT Caraga's Technical Operations Division Chief Lawrence Salang underscored the significance of the training in providing participants with a well-rounded understanding of cybersecurity principles, best practices, and incident response strategies.

The training was formally opened by OIC-Regional Director Bonifacio Pulgo of NICA Caraga who emphasized the inevitable changes in the security landscape brought by the growing presence of malicious actors in the digital world. He stressed the importance of a multi-layered approach to cybersecurity and the need for effective mitigation strategies to counter rapidly evolving threats driven by advancements in technology.

DICT Caraga is dedicated to promoting secure digital transformation in the region through awareness campaigns, capacity-building initiatives, and collaborations with key sectors. Its efforts support the overarching goals of the DICT Cybersecurity Bureau to establish a safe and resilient cyberspace as stated in the National Cybersecurity Plan 2023 - 2028.
