DA, LGU Las Nieves validate proposed farm bridges

LAS NIEVES, Agusan del Norte -- The local government unit (LGU) of Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga, conducted an initial validation of proposed farm bridge sites in Barangays Bonifacio and San Roque. The activity served as a crucial step in improving rural accessibility and supporting the transport of agricultural products from farms to markets.

Led by Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers from the Municipal Agriculture Office and representatives from the DA Caraga -Regional Agricultural Engineering Division (RAED), including Engr. Arlie Grace Gascon-Dublios and Engr. Rolando J. Artiaga, the team assessed the potential locations for the construction of farm bridges.

These bridges are intended to connect agricultural production areas to existing and planned farm-to-market roads, ensuring that farmers can transport their harvest more efficiently and safely, regardless of weather or terrain.

For DA Caraga, access is essential in agriculture. With farm bridges in place, farmers won’t need to rely on makeshift crossings or endure delays during heavy rains. This directly affects how quickly they can bring their goods to market.

The validation process included a thorough evaluation of the area’s topography, soil stability, and overall accessibility to ensure the durability and functionality of the infrastructure. These technical assessments are vital in constructing safe and sustainable bridges that will serve farming communities for years to come.

This initiative formed part of the continued efforts of the LGU Las Nieves to strengthen rural infrastructure and improve the economic resilience of agricultural communities.

“By improving farm-to-market connectivity, the municipality hoped to create better opportunities for farmers, reduce post-harvest losses, and encourage local economic activity. The improved access will not only benefit farming households but also support food security efforts in the wider area,” said Las Nieves Mayor Karen S. Rosales.

As LGU Las Nieves invests in long-term infrastructure, projects like these farm bridges paved the way for more inclusive and productive development in the countryside. (NCLM, PIA Agusan del Norte)
