High powered firearm, personal belongings of rebels captured in a clash in Agusan Norte
CABADBARAN CITY, Agusan Del Norte - One (1) M16 rifle, three (3) serviceable ammunition of 40mm M203 Grenade Launcher and assorted personal belongings were captured by the troops of the 29th Infantry Battalion in a 10-minute firefight at Sitio Pirada, Brgy Del Pilar, Agusan del Norte on April 17.
The troops were conducting combat operations in the area when they encountered more or less 10 CNTs who are believed to be members of the Platoon 1, Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabedad, Westland, North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (SRSDG, WL, NEMRC) under Marjun Navarro alias Julia.
Before the encounter, the unit received information from concerned civilians who reported the presence of the armed communist terrorist group (CTG) periodically extorting and demanding all kinds of supplies from the miners of Sitio Pirada. After validating the report, the troops of 29IB immediately conducted a combat operation.
Lt.Col. Mark S Tabon, commanding officer of 29IB, said, “We appeal to the remaining communist NPA terrorists (CNTs) to abandon the futile armed struggle and avoid unnecessary deaths caused by fighting for the twisted ideology. We encourage the remaining CNT to take advantage of the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and National Amnesty Program, which will assure them the opportunity to start a new life. (1lt.
